In 1987, Nike launched one of their most innovative and groundbreaking designs, the Nike Air Max. The Air Max 1 was designed by Mark Parker and Tinker Hatfield by using Air Cushioning Technology.
Air Max 1 was the first sneaker to feature a visible Air cushioning unit in the heel for greater cushioning and comfort. By embedding Air Cushioning in the midsoles of Air Max 1, Nike changed the way athletes approached and reacted to athletic performance forever. Air cushioning is not just air; sulfur hexafluoride was used to fill the cushioning units in the Nike Air Max 1.
The original Air Max 1 had red/white colorway and an attractive design. Since then many new editions and colorways are released every year, the latest edition in Nike Air Max 1 family is the new Olympics inspired sneakers, they come in a variety of colors that represent each Olympics ring and has a very vibrant metallic finish to it with bright white soles. This specific Nike Air Max edition is named as Unlimited Glory.
Nike also released Air Max 1 for women naming them Nike WMNS Air Max 1 NS, they come in very neat peach and turquoise colorway and also features a super stylized leopard print on its upper mesh. The bright and vibrant colors give a tropical look to it.
The shoes were worldwide publicized in 1987 with a TV campaign which used the Beatles song "Revolution", the first time a Beatles song had been used in a TV commercial. This helped Air Max 1 gain huge popularity in the youth and pop culture.
In 1992 Nike released another version of Air Max sneakers that featured an update in materials to make them a bit more durable, this included changes to the midsole and outsole.
Besides its popularity and demand back then, even now many celebrities and pop-culture icons are seen every now and then rocking these great pair of Air Max 1 sneakers, that include; Kylie Jenner, Rita Ora, Emma Watson, and Justin Bieber.
